For a unique “upside-down” oceanfront home in Southampton, Bakes & Kropp designed this third-floor kitchen with slim Canterbury cabinetry, hand-painted in a soft gray, and a large central island in a contrasting finish. The space features thoughtful details like an appliance garage with a retractable door, a wall of floor-to-ceiling storage, and dual sinks. Butcher block and walnut prep surfaces add warmth and texture, complementing the serene, waterlike blue-gray palette.
This Sag Harbor kitchen boasts a symmetrical design that blends traditional charm with modern functionality. The white cabinetry, paired with soft walnut accents, enhances the coastal aesthetic, while polished nickel hardware adds a sophisticated touch. The island, centered on the range and featuring an integrated sink and seating for four, also includes an unexpected L-shaped wood countertop with corbels, which introduces warmth and interest to the space.
Through pivotal design decisions, Bakes & Kropp successfully preserved the patina of this historic Cold Spring Harbor farmhouse kitchen. Hand-painted white cabinetry establishes a blank slate, providing fresh contrast to the original beams above. To complete the design, the coordinating Chicory Walnut island, custom range hood, and paneled icebox refrigerator doors contribute warmth, embracing the existing darker wood tones.
